Hello everyone, my name is Jake. I live in Upper Michigan and I'm a freshmen at Michigan Technological University studying Ecology and Wildlife Management. I have a tarantula (Avicularia avicularia) and I really like beetles. I've done two years of research and breeding of Galerucella calmariensis to help destroy purple loosestrife populations in my area. I enjoy collecting beetles durring the summer but unfortunately don't have any large species around here:(. I really like to learn about insects and arthropods so anyone who would like to talk with me... let me know:)

Avicularia avicularia

For starters...

Avicularia sp. all:)
Brachypelma emilia
Brachypelma smithi
Cyclosternum fasciatum
Grammostola pulchra
Nhandu chromatus
Nhandu coloratovillosus
Poecilotheria metallica
Psalmopoeus irminia
Xenesthis immanis

Beetles
Trantulas

Entomology, parkour, hiking

hmm:) awesome... so the most amazing thing happened today...I got my first T... Avicularia avicularia... yea.. rifled poo at me from like two feet away... I got scared I won't lie...

Haha, yes!  The avics are very well known as "poo cannons."  LOL, I guess since they don't do the hair kicking thing that's their first line of defense.

Hey:) ... I was looking at your want list and I was kinda curious why you chose those spiders out of all of them. I'm just wondering what characteristics they have that you like. (btw the Psalmopoeus irminia is fricken gorgeous)

Well, the majority is based soley on appearance.

The the E uatuman and H incei because they're greenish.  The T gigas for its beauty and speed.  C crawshayi because I think their THICK back legs look so neat.  I hirsutum because the abdomen stripe they get is absolutely striking.  P irminia because, like you said, they're gorgeous... I had a male, once, and while still a looker definitely not as nice as the contrast the females get.  The H albostriatum because of the contrast and Haplos are fun.  ;)  The M mesomelas because you can never have too many black and red tarantulas, hahaha.  And the S calceatum because the baboon tarantulas have been my favorite "type" of tarantulas to own... and they're so much like H macs.  Since H mac is my second fave species I'd like to have an S calceatum to see what differences there are between the species.

I add to my list often.  Ones you'll prolly never see on it, though, are any other avics than the versi or a T blondi.  I'm not that into pokies, either.

Educated enough to lose a debate with a uber entomologist like my clueless cousin who studies the Arizona seed beetle. *boring*

Who would spend 4 years studying a stupid boring little beetle to see if he can catch it evolving is beyond me.

Isnt that like trying to watch your tree grow?? Wait I think I saw that twig move!!

That beetle is a member of the Rutelinae subfamily of the Scarabeidae family. It is not a spotted grapevine beetle but I know I have seen that kind somwhere....

Rutelins are easily identified by their large tarsal claws but short tarsal segments.
