Today was the New York Metro Reptile Expo. I had a great day as always; it was a big supply-purchase day as I'm revamping 55g, 30g, and 20g vivariums. I got some great deals on cork bark, feeders, etc. but more importantly, got nine new hissers for breeding stock! I got mostly black morphs as well as some very dark hissers with lighter banding. So I have noticed a large amount of TV shows and movies use Madagascar hissing Cockroaches in their shows as pesky little bugs. Does this at all bother anyone as much as it bothers me? In the shows, they portray them as these horrible creatures, but their one of the coolest bugs. I think this is why most people are affraid of them, they're told their whole lives that these animals are disgusting and dirty. It makes me sad. I have enough hissers at the moment that I don't wish to breed willy-nilly for sheer numbers. However, I am embarking on breeding projects with three selected pairs that will hopefully yield the desired results. First, I wish to breed black morphs, and now that I finally have a pair (not to mention a very gravid looking female), I eagerly anticipate adding this attractive color to my colony.
